Brie Larson Interview - July 10, 2006
You can say that Brie Larson is a mogul in the entertainent business. She started her professional career at age 7 while being discovered in San Francisco. Since then she's become a multi-talented actress/singer. She has appeared in Disney Channel's Right on Track, a true story of sister drivers, The WB's Raising Dad and a teen flick where she had a small, but important role in Sleepover. At the age of 12 she started playing the guitar while on set of her first television show. As the years passed, she decided to write her own album, which Finally Out of P.E debuted in October 2005. Now back to the silver screen, Brie can be seen in her first lead role in a family-adventure film Hoot. Read this exclusive interview as Brie has new future projects, and what it's like to be, well, Brie Larson! :)
Juan Guerra: You're currently filming "Farce of the Penguins." Can you explain about your character, and the story of the movie? Brie Larson: The main premise is that its a spoof off of the movie "The March Of The Penguins". I have a supporting role as a teenage penguin who gets hit on by a creepy old pengiun. Its amazing to be part of something that is also starring names like Samuel L. Jackson and is the first film to ever be made entierly out of stock footage. Juan Guerra: What's you're role in "The Beautiful Ordinary"? What's the movie about? Brie Larson: In The Beautiful Ordinary I play a genius drug-addict, who has mathmatically figured out that she can stay home from school and do drugs all day while still keeping a 4.0 GPA. She is so smart, that she can out talk her parents before they talk to her. And on top of that, they really dont have much of a bargaining chip, being that she doesnt leave the house, and she has perfect grades. Kind of amazing. In the "every-parents-worst-nightmare" kind of way. Juan Guerra: In the music video "She said," a single off Finally Out of P.E., you go from working at a diner to rocking out in a black room with blue lights going all over the place. Do you come up with the concepts of the videos? You also play two different kinds of guitars (a red one in the diner and lime-green in the black room) - are those your guitars? Brie Larson: The concept was a collabortive effort with Chris Applebaum(or as I call him "The Cinnamon Pimp") and I. I'm a very hands on person, so I dabble in whatever is thrown my direction. The green Talman is mine, but the red Gretch is not. Sadly. Its a very nice guitar. Juan Guerra: Are you working on new music material? If so, what can we expect from the new album? Brie Larson: Greatness. The epitome of consortium. Juan Guerra: What else would you like to achieve in Hollywood other than acting and singing? Brie Larson: I'd like to alter the main waves of Radio. And I'd like a baby snow leopard. Juan Guerra: If you weren't in the entertainment business, what do you think you would be doing? Brie Larson: I'd be somwhere in the UK, foraging for food. Id have a roomate named Van Norden and I would write poetry and sculpt small pieces that sell somewhere between 27 and 341 dollars. Juan Guerra: Is there anyone you would love to collaborate with in a future project? Brie Larson: David Bowie, Paul Simon or a zebra. I think that would make for an interesting record. Juan Guerra: What ideal role would you like to portray in a movie? Brie Larson: Wow. I can only answer that in general terms. I'd like to do something that scares me. Something that makes me question my ablities. Juan Guerra: Who's been your inspiration in life? Brie Larson: My momma. Juan Guerra: What advice would you give to aspiring actors/singers?
Juan Guerra: How do you preprare yourself when you audition for a movie? Brie Larson: I just make sure I have everything memorized and gone the bathroom. Juan Guerra: What would you say was your biggest accomplishments in your career? Brie Larson: Oh! I cant say yet! I've just begun! Juan Guerra: Who's your biggest influence? (it can be anything: actor, singer, painter, etc). Brie Larson: Taylor Goldsmith. Every girl should have one.
